As a well-established, local business with a dedicated, knowledgeable team, we are one of the area’s number one companies for solar PV installation.
We are friendly and approachable from the very first phone call or point of contact, right through to a clean and tidy conclusion of a solar PV project.
We are fully qualified in this area and we can advise on all the details including how it works, how many panels would work best to meet your needs and how much it is likely to cost.
We can advise you what’s best for your power consumption and design a system bespoke to you.
Introduction – What is Solar PV?
Solar Photovoltaic, (or PV for short) panels gather the sun’s light and turns it into electricity. The panels can be installed on roofs, or set in fields or gardens. There are a number of PV panels types available and they each have a performance guarantee and warranty.
How Do Solar PV panels work?
The panels are made up of smaller solar cells and semi-conductors which, when sunlight or daylight ‘hits’ them, creates an electric current. An inverter then converts this into an alternating current which then flows through your electrical system. The amount of energy created depends on the size of panels and capacity of the local power grid. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cloudy day or cold weather, an electric current is still created by the daylight.
What are the benefits of having solar PV installed?
You are taking advantage of a free and completely renewable energy source – sunlight – and converting into electricity that help reduce energy costs.
Lower energy costs
Protection from rising energy costs
Be paid to export spare electricity through the (SEG) Smart Export Guarantee
Lower your carbon footprint
Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels
Maintenance is minimal as there are few moving parts
Can I store the energy that I don’t use?
You can add a storage battery so that you can store electricity generated by your solar PV panels. The battery system enables you to use the energy when you need it, day or night.
When you have solar PV and a battery system, you could choose a renewable energy provider such as Octopus Energy, and use one of their smart or agile tariffs to receive even more benefits.
Set up a bespoke electric tariff with Octopus Energy Agile Tariff
- This will mean you will get your electricity cheaper when you need to purchase it
- You’ll be able to export unused electricity at a better price
- You can charge your battery during off-peak hours at a cheap rate
All the above will really make the most of your Solar PV system, helping you to get the most value out of your investment.
A financial incentive is available for people who purchase solar PV and a storage battery at the same time, where the VAT on the battery is reduced from 20% to 5%.
How much does it cost?
This is completely dependent on the size of the installation and your energy needs. We will conduct a free site survey and prepare a bespoke quote for your home or business. We will explain the details, from panel costs to full installation.
Installation costs start from around £3,000.
What about government incentives?
While grants have been available in the past, when a system was more expensive, the main type of financial support is through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
What is the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)?
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a system that pays customers for renewable energy they’ve generated and put into the National Grid.
With SEG, you are required to sign up to a SEG tariff with a company and the tariff is only paid on excess electricity put into the National Grid, rather than on all the electricity that has been generated.
Each company sets their own SEG tariff, so it might be worth shopping around.
Factors that affect the tariff include how much electricity you export to the grid; how much electricity you use yourself; and the price you pay for your electricity.
How easy are solar PV panels to maintain?
As with any home or business installation, regular checks are essential.
MYelectrical-Renewables will help with fault fixing (if any occur), and we will reissue safety certificates. We are fully MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) qualified, you can rest assured our work meets industry standards of safety and excellence.
