What are the benefits of having an EV Charger?

Convenience
can be installed at your home or business premises

Speed
you can charge 3 X faster than a regular socket

Safety
we’ll check your wiring to make sure it’s up to the required standard

Weatherproof
no need to worry about it being outdoors
What are the costs involved?
The cost varies depending on the installation. However, there is some help with this through the OLEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, which currently offers a grant up to £250. The costs on your electricity bills can vary, yet many electricity suppliers offer domestic tariffs for EV owners, which as a rule have cheaper rates at night for overnight charging.
And if you have solar PV, you can charge with the energy you have generated.
From July 2019, there is a technical specification in order to receive funding, along with a Government approved list of installers which customers must use. MYelectrical-Renewables is a government approved installer.
How long does it take to charge a vehicle?
This depends on a number of factors: size of car, size of battery, and the type of EV Charger.
Some rough timings are outlined below from empty to 100%:
- Slow charge – between five to eight hours (up to 12 for longer range vehicles)
- Fast charge – up to five hours
- A rapid charger takes up to one hour for an 80% charge.
What about Commercial Properties?
Some workplaces have been forward thinking and have installed charging points for their employees.
If you are an employer with access to a company car, a fleet of vehicles or employees use their own cars for work purposes, you could benefit from the Workplace Charging Scheme.
